THE HUMANIST

POINT OF VIEW

Prologue:

In the commentary you are about to read,
I do not see the Humanist
attacking religious theology.

I see an opposing perception of truth
expressing itself openly and candidly
in the pursuit of knowledge.

Knowledge is the greatest human accomplishment
and must be seen as a dramatic tool of examination
to be used for the enlightenment
and improvement of humankind.

HUMANISM

Humanism
is a leading organization for people
concerned with ethics and society,
free from religious and supernatural dogma.

Humanism is a positive
and ethical way forward
for individuals, families,
communities and the world,
without recourse to a god
or other supernatural beliefs.

At the end of the twentieth century,
a growing number of people
around the world are turning
to Humanism as the practical
and rational outlook on life.

Humanism is an approach to life
based on reason and common humanity,
recognizing that moral values
are properly founded on
human nature and experience alone.

The five central aims of Humanism are:

The promotion of Humanism in clear terms
as a basis for commitment, guidance,
meaning and inspiration, for individuals,
families, communities and for a nation.

Humanism should help
define and defend human values.

The recognition of Humanism,
by bringing it equal status
with religions in education,
the administration of justice,
broadcasting, et cetera,
or by the removal of privileges
attached to organized religion.

The implementation
of Humanism through education,
and group instruction activities.

The organization of Humanism
through education as a flexible, dynamic
and efficient charitable entity,
and the participation in Humanism,
the essential involvement of people
from all communities everywhere.

Humanists think ~

this world and this life are all we have.

we should try to live full and happy lives
ourselves, and as part of this, make it easier
for other people to do the same.

 all situations and people deserve
to be judged on their merits
by standards of reason and humanity.

 individuality and social co-operation
are equally important.

The Humanist's objects are ~

The mental and moral improvement
of the human race by means of
the advancement of Humanism,
that is to say,
the moral and social development
of the community free from theistic
and dogmatic beliefs and doctrines.

The advancement of education
and in particular, the study of Humanism
and the dissemination of knowledge
of its principles.

Summing up ~

I have quoted, copied,
paraphrased for clarity,
and expressed in my own words
segments to develop this commentary.
