Gabrielle Reece
has combined a power playing style
with a crowd pleasing persona,
from her amateur days
at Florida State University
through the Cuervo Classic
and beyond.
Nobody cuts as striking a figure
as this statuesque
lean
mean
volleyball machine.
Gabrielle Reece,
the mighty
female volleyball star,
redefines
what it means
to be ladylike.
She tells women
to get in touch with
their masculine side
from the boardroom
to the bedroom.
She perspires
and she roars.
She scares grown men
the way she pounds
volleyballs.
And yet,
Gabrielle Reece,
the 6 foot 3,
28 year old,
volleyball sensation,
redefines the word
feminine.
If you think
she is assertive
as a player,
try keeping up
with her verbal volleys.
She serves up
her convictions
like cannonballs.
She has advice
for tall women
who attempt
to disguise their height.
Stand up straight.
You only look taller
when you are haunched over.
So what
if shorter people
are intimidated?
There is
nothing
more attractive
than a tall person
standing up straight.
Gabrielle Reece,
who grew up
in the U. S. Virgin Islands,
maintains that
what is considered ladylike
is constantly changing.
She has noticed
more athletes being voted
homecoming queens.
Never one to limit herself
Gabby has expanded
into professional modeling and acting,
including some very smooth stints
as a television guest host,
proving that her talents
are not limited to
her powerful athelete's body
and classically beautiful face.
Gabrielle does indeed
have a most excellent mind.
She herself is
the ultra beauty jock
broadening her fan base
by engaging in
drag racing
sky diving
kayaking
and appearances
on TV sports shows.
She met her husband,
top surfer
Laird Hamilton,
while riding
the monster waves
in Hawaii.
Gabrielle Reece
encourages women
to explore
their masculine side
even in the bedroom.
If you admire
your mans physique,
speak frankly
and let him know.
Take an aggressive stance.
Dont just tell him
how nice he looks
in a tuxedo.
When you are intimate,
tell him he is
~ looking good.
Honest and candid
in comparing the sexes,
she tells us that
they say boys
are problem solvers
and girls just talk
about their problems.
There is some truth in that,
and that is why
girls should play team sports.
When you are hanging out
with just chicks,
you are deciding,
should we go to the mall
or to the movies?
But on a team,
you set goals
and you work together.
If a teammate makes you angry,
you cant say
you are not hanging out
with her anymore.
The best player
may be the very one
who drives you bonkers,
but you understand
her importance,
and you go with the flow.
Whatever gets people
to pay attention is fine,
because once they watch
they realize fully
the caliber of the athlete.
Be realistic
about your body shape.
Gabrielle cant be five feet five.
She passed that mark long ago.
You may not look
exactly the way you want to look,
but what you see
is what you have.
You can always find ways
to enhance yourself,
but, at all times, work
from and with
your own canvas.
Dont be afraid of eating.
Not eating
is counter-productive.
You cannot build muscle
without food.
Eat every four hours,
but eat snacks not meals,
right up to a couple of hours
before bedtime.
Keep putting things
in your engine.
Just stay away from junk food.
She tells the teens she speaks to
to outgrow rebellion.
You get to the point
when you are no longer
rebelling against parents,
teachers and coaches.
You are just rebelling
against yourself.
Age with an attitude.
Lauren Bacall
does not apologize
for getting older.
Gabrielle
sees many fantastic women
with wrinkles.
They have an attitude
that is just beautiful.
Gabrielle Reece plays
championship volleyball,
and is active
with underprivileged girls
competing in
junior national volleyball
championships.
Gabrielle Reece
is all woman
and proud of herself
and everything that
she has accomplished
in our male dominated society.
Every girl
can follow Gabrielles lead
and come to realize that
they are every bit
the equal of any boy
~ and then some.
My thanks to all sources
in magazines and on The Net
from which I freely quoted and
paraphrased to create
this humble tribute to
this truly amazing
young woman.
