PRINCESS DIANA
FRANCES SPENCER WINDSOR

will always be the perfect example
of all that is good and worthwhile in life
and at the same time
every bit as human and fragile
as the very best of us
and the very least of us.

She would embrace
with unflinching conviction
the fundamental truth projected
by the following observations
by an anonymous author.

LIFE IS NOT ABOUT
KEEPING SCORE

It is not about how many friends you have
and how accepted you are.
It is not about whether you have plans this weekend,
or if you are to spend the time alone.
It is not about who you are dating,
or who you used to date.
It is not about how many people you have dated
or whether you have dated anyone at all.
It is not about who you have kissed.
It is not about sex.
It is not about who your family is,
or how much money you have.
It is not about what kind of car you drive.
It is not about where you went to school.
It is not about how beautiful you are,
or how less than beautiful you are.
It is not about what kind of clothes you wear
or what kind of shoes you wear on your feet.
It is not about what kind of music you prefer.
It is not about whether your hair
is blonde, red, black or brown
or naturally curly or long and straight.
It is not about whether your skin is white
or black or golden or silver-gray or red.
It is not about what grades you get,
or about how intelligent you are,
or about how intelligent
everybody else thinks you are,
or about how smart IQ tests say you are.
It is not about what clubs you are in
or how good you are at your favorite sport.
It is not about representing
yourself in the best possible light
or about seeing who will accept
the image you have created
to impress everyone in the right circles.

LIFE JUST ISN'T
ABOUT THOSE THINGS AT ALL.
THERE ARE; HOWEVER,
SOME IMPORTANT THINGS
THAT LIFE IS ABOUT.

Life is about who you love and who you hurt.
Life is about who you make happy
or who you make unhappy on purpose.
Life is about keeping trust or betraying trust.
Life is about friendship used
as a privilege or as a weapon.
Life is about what you say and what you mean
maybe hurtful, maybe inspiring.
Life is about not starting rumors
and contributing to petty gossip.
Life is about the judgements you choose to pass
and why and who those judgements affect.
Life is about who you have ignored
with full control and full intention.
Life is about jealousy, fear, ignorance, revenge,
prejudice, hate, envy, greed and selfishness
and your ability to recognize, evaluate
and defeat the relentless forces
that strive to empower our darker side.
Life is about carrying inner hate or inner love,
letting it go, and spreading it.

But most of all life is about using your life
to enrich or to poison the heart of another person
in such a way that could never have occurred
without your direct, intentional action.

Only you can choose the way
those hearts will be affected
and your choices will become
what your life will be all about,
the person you will become.
