SHANIA TWAIN

Shania Twain was born
Eileen Regina Edwards
on August 28, 1965
to parents of Irish and French origin
in Windsor, Ontario in Canada.

She grew up in the small town of
Timmins, Ontario.

Sharon, her mother,
also gave birth to younger brothers
Mark and Darryl
and two younger sisters
Jill and Carrie Ann.

Shania took the name
of her adoptive father,
Jerry Twain,
an Ojibway Indian
who worked at forestry
and prospecting.

Later she would begin
entertaining as Eileen Twain
and was encouraged
to change her name.

She refused to change Twain
out of respect for her father,
but agreed in 1990
to change her given name to
~ Shania ~
an Ojibway name which means
~ Im on my way! ~

The tragic death
of her mother and father
in a fatal auto wreck in 1987
interrupted her efforts to break
into the music world in Toronto
and caused her to return home
to care for her younger siblings.

She continued to sing, play guitar,
write songs and perform
at Deerhurst Resort in Ontario
which afforded her needed income
and helped her develop
her uncanny sense of showmanship.

Her career took off in 1993
and she met and married
Robert John Lange,
a successful music producer.

The happy couple have homes
in Florida and Switzerland.

Shania is five feet four inches tall,
weighs 110 shapely pounds,
has green eyes
and long, dark brown hair.

Like her husband
she is an avid vegetarian
with a weakness for pasta
and all types of pastry.

Her favorite colors
are red and green
and she looks
fantastic in black.

Playing her guitar
every bit as well as she sings,
Shanias first performance number was
~ Country Roads ~
by John Denver.

Her phenomenal success
delights all of her fans,
but there are those
in country music
who complain that her lyrics
are extremely aggressive
for a female singer
by the established standards
and that she is from Canada
and not the United States.

The Canadian born singer
is one of most successful
crossover artists
in the history of country music.

In the span of five short years
she has collected
a sufficient number of
country music awards
that will more than cover
the entire stage
of the Grand Ole Opry.

One of her crowning achievements
is her appearance at
VH1's ~ Divas Live ~ concert
with some of our leading vocalists
Celine, Mariah, Gloria and Aretha.

The concert was recorded
on the smash hit CD
~ Divas Live ~
released in 1998.

Her loyal fans mandated
her superstar status.

Her fans are very important to Shania
and considered as family and friends.

She is shy, yet confident
as she sincerely affirms,
I care about my fans.
My fans are who I sing for
and my career gives me
a great deal of pleasure.

Shania considers
family and happiness
lifes most important values
and contributes her time and money
to programs designed to help
underprivileged children.

Shania employs
clothing designer, Marc Bouwer
and wardrobe consultants
who work with her on her clothing
for videos, television appearances
and The Tour.

Most of her clothing
is eventually auctioned off
to raise funds for charities.

She likes camping, horseback riding,
skiing, snowmobiles, golf and canoeing.

She likes to read, watch movies
and spending lots of time
with her horses and dogs.

Shanias favorite flowers are
white roses, peach roses
and daisies.

And can you believe it ~
Shania can juggle, too!
